Google glasses

Google glasses:  Hitting market this year....

Sergey Brin envisions Google's Internet glasses hitting the market this year with an eye toward freeing people from unsocial habits engendered by "emasculating" smartphones.
Brin spoke of inspiration behind Google Glass eyewear during a brief appearance Wednesday on stage at a TED Conference known for an inspiring mix of influential big thinkers and "ideas worth spreading.
He playfully demonstrated his point on stage by ignoring a theater audience to stare down at his smartphone, saying he was intent on a message from a Nigerian prince need of $10 million dollars.
"I like to pay attention because that is how we originally funded the company," the Google co-founder quipped about a well-known scam.
"Seriously, in addition to potentially socially isolating yourself when you are out and about using your phone, I feel it is kind of emasculating," he continued.
Brin described Glass as the first form factor to deliver on a vision he had from Google's inception that one day search queries would be outmoded and information from the Internet would come to people when they need it.
Glass frees the eyes as well as the hands when it comes to connecting to the Internet on the go, according to Brin.
"That is why we put the display up high, out of the line of sight," Brin said, wearing the Glass eyewear he is rarely seen without.
"If I wore a ball cap, the display would be on the brim and not where you are looking," he continued. "And sound goes through bones in the cranium, which is a little freaky at first, but you get used to it."
Glass wearers can speak commands to the eyewear, and built-in camera technology allows pictures or video to be captured from first-person perspectives while people take part in what is happening.
"Lastly, I realized I also have a nervous tic," Brin said. "The cell phone is a nervous habit. If I smoked, I'd probably smoke instead."
He observed that smartphones sometimes become props used by people as distractions or to appear busy, saying that Glass strips away excuses not to be sociable or to not be honest about simply wanting to take a break.
"It really opened by eyes to how much of my life I spent secluded away in email, social posts or what-not," Brin said. "There is nothing bad about that, but with this thing I don't have to be checking them all the time."
Brin said Glass eyewear will be available later this year at prices lower than the $1,500 charged to software developers and early adopters during a restricted test phase.
Wednesday was the last day for "explorers" with creative vision and $1,500 to spare to vie to be part of a select group of people who get to experiment with Glass.
A video intended to capture what it feels like to use Glass was online at google.com/glass/start/.
Google has been speaking with eyeglass frame companies about ideas for a consumer version of the glasses, which he expected would cost "significantly" less than the Explorer prototypes.
US adults interested in the program had to say what they would do if they had Glass eyewear and then post the messages at Twitter or Google+ social networks with hashtag #ifihadglass.
People chosen for the Explorer program will need to pick up in person at sessions to be held in New York, Los Angeles, or San Francisco.

How to buy books from Google

Google on Thursday started selling books through its Android Play store in India. Google's decision to start selling content in India through the Play store comes nearly three months after Apple, which competes with Google in the smartphone and tablet market, introduced iTunes content store.

However, unlike iTunes store that sells music and films - but not books - in India, Google is selling only books for now. But sources say the company realizes India is an important smartphone and tablet market and going forward it is likely to add more content to the Play store.

"Just under one year ago, we introduced Google Play. Today we're adding books to Google Play for people in India. Books on Google Play now offers thousands of Indian titles, from new releases to classics," a Google official wrote on the company's blog.

Now, buy books from Google
"It's easy to find great Indian authors such as Amish Tripathi, Devdutt Pattanaik and APJ Abdul Kalam, plus international bestsellers from the world's largest ebookstore."

While Google's Android operating system powers a majority of smartphones in India the company has been slow to build a content ecosystem on the Play store.

But last year it picked some pace as it added the support for India-specific prices for apps in the Play store and rolled out Navigation service through an app for Android devices and iPhones.

The company has also lagged behind in introducing its Nexus phones and tablets, which are officially supported by Google, in India. So far, only one Nexus device - Nexus S - has been launched here.

Google said that books bought from the Play store will sync across devices with the help of the Play Books app. "With Google Play you can read on the device of your choice. And with your books in the cloud you can read on the web, a phone, or a tablet and pick up right where you left off," the Google official wrote on the blog.

Interestingly, users will be able to purchase books on the Play store through a web browser and read them on a computer. Apple's iTunes doesn't allow users to purchase items through a web browser.

Scope for Mobile Application Development

Mobile application development companies are seeing their fortunes these days as the variety of smart phones have increased in the market. People are showing more interest in downloading and using apps for different purpose such as to play games, listen to music, watch videos, hear news, get sports update, chat with friends, share photos, search hotels or restaurants, locate hospital, etc. on the mobile phones.
The above mobile apps are developed uniquely for each platform such as Android, iPhone, Blackberry, Symbian, etc. since apps development for platform may not be suitable for another platform. Thus there are separate dedicated teams for Android application development, iPhone application development, etc.
The mobile application development company is also involved in cross platform mobile application development such that apps developed are suitable for other platform also. There are various technology such as Rhomobile, Rhohub, Phonegap, etc., that are used in cross platform method which makes it possible for the app to perform well in different platform.
Among many fields, the Android apps development has gained much importance. It is a product of Google with greater facilities of accessing the internet resources for merging with the application features. There are more than 150,000 apps in the market, and new apps are uploaded each day.
The iPhone application development is also an equally competitive platform as it belongs to Apple Inc. There are about 500,000 apps in the stores for download which is comparatively very high with Android. The iPhone apps are preferred for its quality while than Android apps is developer’s choice since it is easy for programming.
The competition between Android apps development and iPhone app development is much favorable for the customers as they get the best features introduced in every application by the developers. These platform are also mostly supportive for cross platform mobile application development.
The windows mobile application is not competing with other platform but remains as the commonly used application that are user friendly and preferred by the people for its simplicity. The Blackberry application development is also solo market holder with unique apps specifically developed for its mobile set.
All the apps stores have different types of apps under variety of categories such as business, communication, education, entertainment, health, lifestyle, multimedia, news, shopping, sports, weather, travel, navigation, games, utilities, etc. These apps are available as a paid service or mostly free to download and use.
There is a great opportunity for mobile application development in all platforms since people are daunting for new types of apps for different needs.

Android apps max size shoots from 50MB to 4GB

Some Android apps are about to take a lot longer to download, but they'll also have more interactive 3-D graphics, audio, and video. Google boosted its maximum app size from 50MB to 4GB today, according to the Android Developers blog.
"Android applications have historically been limited to a maximum size of 50MB. This works for most apps, and smaller is usually better -- every megabyte you add makes it harder for your users to download and get started," software architect Tim Bray wrote on the blog. "However, some types of apps, like high-quality 3D interactive games, require more local resources."

The way the new byte system will work is users' Android Package files (APK) will still be limited to 50MB to "ensure secure on-device storage." But now developers can attach two more 2GB expansion files, which will let them have more flexibility and creativity in app development.

This change means that the Android Market will now host the files, which helps lower costs for developers. It also means that users will be able to see an app's total size before purchasing and installing it. An extra bonus is that on "most newer devices," Bray wrote, the 15-minute refund period won't start until the entire app is downloaded.

Google Glass contest gives non-devs a chance to grab $1,500 specs

Summary: Google has revealed that non-developers will be able to get their hands on a prototype of the upcoming Google Glass device if they can sell their vision of what they'd use it for in 50 words or less.

Google has launched a new 'competition' that will let non-developers get their hands on the company's internet-enabled glasses, Google Glass.

Google Glasses
Announced at Google's I/O conference last year, the prototype 'Explorer Edition' of the networked specs was only made available to developers. The competition, launched on Wednesday, will be the first time that those outside of the developer community will be able to access the devices, with 8,000 of them up for grabs.
In order to enter, Google is asking people to say on Twitter and Google+ how they would use the glasses if they were given a set.
Google is asking entrants to tag their ideas, which must be no longer than 50 words, with the hashtag #ifIhadglass. Entrants are also allowed to use up to five photos and a video up to 15 seconds in length.

See: Take a peek through Google glasses
Applications must be made before 27 February and Google will award the glasses to the lucky competition winners at a pick-up experience in New York, San Francisco or Los Angeles.
The competition is open anyone over the age of 18 living in the US and will give them the opportunity to try out the glasses before they go on general sale. While Google hasn't set a date when that will be, it's thought Google Glass could reach general availability at the end of 2014.
However, there's no such thing as a free lunch for would-be Glass owners: competition winners will still need to spend $1,500 to get their Explorer Edition of the glasses.

To coincide with the competition launch, Google released a new YouTube video demonstrating the headset's initial features, user interface and the overall experience of using the device.
The video shows Google Glass in action and suggests that users will be able to take photos and record what they see by giving voice commands like "OK Glass, take a picture" or "OK Glass, record a video". The video also shows features such as voice-controlled searches and Google+ Hangouts.

Chromebook Pixel—Google’s groundbreaker laptop

Google has once again stunned the tech world. The new laptop they unveiled yesterday in San Francisco—the ‘Chromebook Pixel’— stands out for many things radically new.
Its specs compete with any of the existing Ultrabooks or Macbooks; its resolution outdoes the best existing ones by almost 100 percent. That’s as good as, if not better than, what Apple calls ‘retina display’.

Google Chromebook Pixel
It has touchscreen, along with a keyboard and mousepad; the high-res touchscreen allows all the fancies and utilities like ‘tap’, ‘pinch to zoom’ and ‘swipe’.
Chromebook Pixel runs on Intel Core i5 processor and comes out in two models: 32 GB model with WiFi only, 64 GB model with WiFi and LTE.
Apart from the 32 GB or 64 GB built-in storage, Google offers 1TB free space on Google Drive for three years.
In addition to all regular Google apps and docs, Chrome Pixel buyers can enjoy seamless integration with Microsoft Office—to satisfy the MS Office fanatics Google is offering Quick Office for free.
Where to buy: The Chromebook Pixel is already available in Google Play, and shall soon be available on bestbuy.com.
The Price: The google blog says it has aimed the Chromebook Pixel for ‘especially for power users who have fully embraced the cloud’.  Hence, unlike the earlier Chromebooks from Google and its partner manufacturers like Samsung, Acer and HP, which are sold for as low as $199, the Chromebook Pixel targets an elite class of buyers who don’t bother about the price, but minds the performance; users who are happy working on the cloud across superfast connectivity. Hence the price is in the upper band: $ 1299 for 32 GB WiFi model; $ 1449 for the 64 GB LTE model.
More details (as touted by Google and gleaned from sneak previews)
Screen: 12.85-inch touch-sensitive Gorilla Glass screen. 2560 x 1700 pixels on 12.85 inch screen translate to 4.3 million pixels, i.e. 239 pixels per inch whereas the best current laptops give a resolution of 118 ppi according to Google.
OS: Chrome
Webcam: 720p
Audio: Powerful, full-range speakers tucked under the backlit keyboard. Three microphones designed and deployed in a manner that cancels all surrounding noise—two mics on either side of the cam, one laser mic under the keyboard. These ensure, Google claims, that the system cancels out even some keyboard tapping noises that you may make during videoconferences.
Look and feel: Anodized aluminium alloy body that is smooth and durable; vents and screws are hidden, ports are not marked.
Speed: Driven by Intel Core i5 processor and solid state flash memory architecture, it is quick and agile.
Security: built-in antivirus protection, regular updates every few weeks

Network Layer's

7)  Application Layer : The application layer provider different services to the application. Example of services provided by this layer are file transfer, electronic messaging e-mail, virtual terminal access and network management.
6) Presentation Layer : The Presentation layer is responsible for protocol conversion, date encryption/decryption, Expanding graphics command and the date compression. This layer makes the communications between two host possible.
5) Session Layer : This layer is responsible for establishing the process-to-process communication between the host in the network. This layer is responsible for establishing and ending the sessions across the network. The interactive login is an example of services provided by this layer in which the connective are re-connected in care of any interruption.
4) Transport Layer : This layer is responsible for end-to-end delivers of messages between the networked hosts. It first divides the streams of data into chunks or packets before transmission and  then the receiving computer re-assembles the packets. It also guarantee error free data delivery without loss or duplications.
3) Network Layer : This layer is responsible for translating the logical network address and names into their physical address ( MAC address). This layer is also responsible for addressing, determining routes for sending and managing network problems such as packet switching, data congestion and routines.
2) Data Link Layer : Data link layer is responsible for controlling the error between adjacent nodes and transfer the frames to other computer via physical layer. Data link layer is used by hubs and switches for their operation.
1) Physical Layer : Physical  Layer is responsible for transmitting row bit stream over the physical cable. The physical layer defines the hardware items such as cables, cards, voltages etc.
