Android 3.1 Honeycomb comes to the Iconia Tab A500

Android 3.1 Honeycomb comes to the Iconia Tab A500

TAIWANESE HARDWARE OUTFIT Acer has confirmed that it is rolling-out an Android 3.1 Honeycomb update to its Iconia Tab A500.

The A500 is one of the many Android Honeycomb tablets on the market and the next in line for a software upgrade. Owners of this Acer tablet can get the update now via an automatic update.

Android 3.1 Honeycomb will bring users up to speed with the latest version of Google's tablet operating system. It brings features such as resizable widgets, smoother transitions and better multi-tasking.

Unfortunately the Android 3.1 Honeycomb update for the Acer Iconia Tab A100, the smaller 7in model, has been delayed and won't be out until September.

Acer was unable to give us any reasons for the delay but said, "It is safe to say that the A100 will come with the latest software."

The A500 is up against rival tablets such as the Motorola Xoom and the Asus Eee Pad Transformer, both of which have the Android 3.1 update already. Acer recently cut its tablet shipments by 60 per cent.

It seems that the tablet market is getting busier by the week. Soon to be upon us is the HP Touchpad, which will have HP's alternative tablet operating system WebOS.
